Hi!

I am Ivy-Rose Opal, a poet from the UK who is sharing her writing and finding her community.

I have been writing creatively for about as long as I can remember, and have been enthralled by stories and poems even longer. Writing helps me understand the world and myself. It lets me explores all the lives I could have lived. When life allows, I also perform poetry at open mics. I would recommend listening to any of my poems that maybe feel a little flatter on the page, some are written to be performed rather than read, but I still enjoy the opportunity to share them.

Alongside my love for writing, my love for music has also grown. While I lack the talent in creating it myself, I’ve always been a happy listener and keen to share the music I enjoyed with the world. This led to me spending my spare time producing and presenting a radio show promoting unsigned musicians from across the world.

The Poetry Nook is made up of several different newsletters. Initially you will be subscribed to all, but you can pick and choose your preferred newsletters.

The Poetic Periodical goes once a week on a Monday. It contains a poem I’ve written and a photo I find poetry in. They are not always related to each other.

Prompt Poetry is a weekly newsletter. It contains a prompt and a poem inspired by the prompt. There’s usually a weekly life-update or some thoughts on something related to the creative process.

On The Wall is a monthly poetry recommendation newsletter. There will be 3 recommendations each month based off of poetry I’ve discovered during the month.

Why have a newsletter?

Because why not?!

Because I love poetry. Because I love to share my creativity with others and bask in their creativity in return. Because I love to shout about the talents of others you may otherwise miss.

Because the world gets dark and heavy, but here I hope you’ll find space to breathe, relax and enjoy some distraction.

Because creativity is important. Because community is important. Because caring is important.

Here is a little taster of my poetry before you delve fully in:

Poetry is an unruly song bird,
Dancing hither and thither,
All of a twitter.

Sense it makes little of,
And it's rhythm is a little

Off

But oh with every delight,
It disturbs my night,
Scattering words across my brain,
Like seeds across it's cage.

I try to follow it's dancing lead,
Grasping at metaphors and similes.
             Round
 and                    and
             Round
 and                    and
             Round
Until I'm unsure if I'm spinning or the ground?!

But as I learn its quirks
And listen quietly to the bird
Beneath the jabbering tweets
I can find a melodic beat
And as the drumming grows
So, I find the words do flow.
