Hi!
I hope you’re enjoying your bank holiday weekend. I am just popping into your inbox to let you know about some changes that are happening, so you know what to expect.
Welcome To…
I mentioned a couple of week’s ago that this newsletter was going to change it’s name. I’m one of those people who learns best by doing, so Ivy-Rose Opal’s Poetry was a placeholder so I could get started, get a feel and then worry about naming later.
Well I’ve done that, and now it’s time to properly name the newsletter, so I welcome you to The Poetry Nook. It is your corner of the internet to enjoy some poems, get creative and escape the world for a bit.
The Poetry Nook will contain 3 newsletters, Prompt, Praise and Poetry.
Prompt is the one you’re already receiving on a Thursday morning. It contains a prompt and a poem inspired by said prompt. It is a safe space for us to experiment together. Whether it’s try new forms, explore something from a new angle or create when it’s the last thing we want to do, but still want to show up each week.
Praise will be a monthly newsletter which I share some of my current favourite poets and poems with you. This won’t restricted to poets on Substack, but poets from all over. As I view these newsletters as a two-way street, I hope you will also use this time to share some of your favourites with me too.
Poetry will be a weekly newsletter and will contain original poetry of mine. This one is on the back burner for now. I look forward to sharing this with you, but for now I’m focusing on getting into a regular writing schedule and sharing this journey with you. (Let’s not run before we can walk and all that.)
Introducing…
Stave and Stanza will be a free fortnightly newsletter that will bring you recommendations and news of poets and musicians on Substack. It will essentially be your one-stop-shop for the goings on the Poetrystack and MusicStack communities.
This is a reimagining of what I had planned to do with Stave and Stanza a couple of years ago. While originally I had considered getting back on the podcast bandwagon, S. E. Reid made me reconsider the wider options available to me with this note:
So I’m stepping into the world of microjournalism.
Each fortnight I’ll highlight a poet and musician on Substack. I’ll round up the latest news and announcements. There will also be a reader recommendation section, because I want this to be a community space. At some point, I may even include some interviews.
How To Get Stave And Stanza?
Click on your pofile picture then on ‘Manage Subscription’
Scroll to Notifications and toggle Stave and Stanza on (it’ll go green).
You’re done! Celebrate with a happy dance!
Aside from some small design choices, these are the major updates to share with you. I’m excited to have a plan for how this is looking. For those who want more poetry in your life, I’m going to be sharing short poems on Notes on Substack, so keep your eyes peeled there.
What exciting news do you have to share? I’d love to hear it.
Looking forward to more poetry! Glad we’ve connected here, and thanks for recommending Writing in Company. 🖋️
I love the idea of you also being a micro journalist to curate poetry on Substack for us!
