Hello!
We are in one of my favourite months, National Poetry Month! Many people will be writing a poem a day for the entirety of April so there is plenty of opportunities to fulfil your daily poetry dose.
Having gone very hard on poetry at the start of the year, and particularly in February and burning myself out entirely on it in March, I’m not jumping onto the daily poetry this year. Below are some recommendations of poets who are doing daily posts for you to check out:
The Poetry Nook is having a bit of a revamp and reschedule, a bit of Spring Clean if you will! As I head towards Summer, my availability becomes quite limited, so as much as I was enjoying 2 to 3 newsletters a week, the growth in others areas is not allowing me the time to commit to this many. So some pruning is required to keep writing and sharing.
You can read more about what to find and when here:
This prompt was inspired by another prompt from a workshop run by Helen Mort during the Verve Poetry Festival this year.
Trigger Warning: Mention of death and noose.
Faith of One
You are a God. Regardless of size Your very existence is proof Someone believes in you. Yes, you may feel fragile, The faith of one compared to many, May not move mountains Or part seas, But the faith of one Is powerful enough. Faith is trust Mixed with hope. A firecracker mixture Ready to smoke. So you better look up, Better get busy. Both eyes are on you, Worthy of note, Handle it carefully, Death if it's broke. He won't be warm, He won't be cold, Indifference will Be the noose for your throat.
Thank you for reading Prompt Poetry. I would love to see your responses to April’s prompt, please reply to this email with them, or leave them in the comments, or if you’re sharing them anywhere else tag me - @IvyRoseOpal
I will be back in your inbox next week with The Poetic Periodical!
Besides the worthy poem-a-day practitioners that Ivy-Rose mentioned: @ConnorT is posting the daily prompts from NaPoWritMo.net in Notes every day, and a lot of lively first-draft sharing is happening underneath each prompt.
Thank you for the shout-out! We all need to give ourselves a break now and then. Love the poem! Yes, we are gods!
